TiviMate on Chromecast with Google TV: move through menus faster
If you find yourself pressing the remote two or three times more than feels right just to reach a channel, this guide is for you. By the end you will know which TiviMate settings to change, which remote habits to build, and how to stop the app from slowing you down on a Chromecast with Google TV device.
Why browsing feels sluggish in the first place
TiviMate loads its channel list from your provider over your home internet connection each time the app starts fresh. On a Chromecast with Google TV that process can feel longer than expected because the device shares processing resources with the launcher and any background apps. Before adjusting anything inside TiviMate, check two things: that nothing else is running in the background (hold the Home button and swipe away any open apps), and that your router is close enough to give the Chromecast a strong signal. A device tucked behind a large television and two rooms from the router can lose enough signal strength to make every list scroll feel hesitant.
Once the connection side is solid, the slowness is almost always a settings issue inside TiviMate itself.
The settings that make the biggest difference
Open TiviMate, press the remote's Menu button (three horizontal lines on the Google TV remote) and go to Settings → Appearance. Two changes here have an immediate effect.
First, set Number of columns in the channel list to a smaller value. A long single-column list means more scrolling; widening it to two or three columns lets you reach a channel with fewer directional presses.
Second, turn on Remember last position. Without it, every time you open the channel list you land at the top and scroll down again. With it, the app reopens at whatever channel you last watched, which is usually where you want to start.
In Settings → Player, set the stream loading timeout to a moderate value. If it is too high, TiviMate waits a long time before it admits a stream is unavailable and moves on; a shorter timeout keeps things moving.
Finally, check Settings → General and enable Fast channel switch if your provider supports it. The picture updates more quickly as you arrow through channels without fully loading each one.

Frequently asked questions
- Why does TiviMate take a long time to load channels after I switch inputs?
TiviMate refreshes its playlist when it starts from cold, and on a Chromecast that can take a moment if the Wi-Fi signal is weak or the router is busy. Keep the Chromecast close to the router and use the app's background-refresh setting so the list is ready before you open it.
- Can I search for a channel by name instead of scrolling?
Yes. In the channel list, press the Search or microphone button on the Google TV remote and speak the channel name, or select the search icon and type with the on-screen keyboard. TiviMate filters the list as you type.
- My favorites group disappeared after a playlist update. What happened?
If the provider changes channel IDs during an update, TiviMate can lose the link between your saved favorites and the new list entries. Re-add the channels using the long-press method and they will stay put through future updates as long as the IDs remain stable.
- Does TiviMate work on other Android-based devices, not just Chromecast?
TiviMate runs on Android TV and Fire TV devices as well, and the navigation settings described here apply across all of them. The remote layout differs slightly, but the menu paths inside the app are the same.
Remote shortcuts worth learning
The Google TV remote has a few behaviors in TiviMate that most viewers never discover.
- Long-press OK on any channel opens a context menu where you can add it to a favorites group. Building even a small favorites list means your most-watched channels are reachable with one press from the main screen.
- Press Back while a channel is playing to return to the channel list without stopping playback. The stream continues behind the list, so you are browsing live rather than staring at a loading screen.
- Press OK twice quickly on a channel to jump straight into it without passing through any confirmation dialog, provided TiviMate's direct-open option is active under Settings → General.
- Number buttons on the remote let you type a channel number directly. If you know that your preferred news channel sits at a specific position, pressing those digits then OK is faster than any amount of scrolling.
These habits take a few sessions to feel natural, but once they do the remote does most of the work.
Organizing groups so the list stays short
A channel list that runs to several hundred entries will always feel slow to browse, no matter how well the app is configured. TiviMate lets you hide any group you never watch. Go to Settings → Playlist, select your provider, and tap Groups. Uncheck sport categories you have no interest in, uncheck foreign-language tiers you do not use, and uncheck any test or placeholder groups the playlist carries. The list that remains is shorter and faster to move through.
For viewers who mostly watch a fixed set of channels — evening news, a sports package, a couple of movie channels — a dedicated favorites group beats navigating the full list every time. Add channels to it using the long-press method above and set that group as the default in Settings → General → Default group. TiviMate will open straight to it.

Getting TiviMate running on a fresh Chromecast
If you are setting up for the first time: open the Google Play Store on the Chromecast with Google TV, search for TiviMate by name, and install it. When it opens for the first time, it asks you to add a playlist or provider. Use the credentials that arrive by email after you sign up — a username, a password, and a server address — entered under the Xtream Codes option. Once the playlist loads, everything described above applies.
If you need to verify those credentials on a Windows machine before entering them on the TV, the walkthrough on entering login details in an IPTV app on Windows explains the process clearly, and the same credential format applies in TiviMate. You can also look over the full range of available plans on the service's home page before committing.
